Hello All!

Change is in the air and there are changes at the school also.  You may have noticed our newly expanded library.  The fabulous new books were a gift from our own Mr. Leonard, and Noah’s grandmother Geri Gurley has been, once again, cataloging books for our library!   Thanks, guys!  A thank you goes out also to the Wilgus family for the new desk they provided (where I am currently sitting – it’s quite lovely!), and to the Smith family for making the perfectly sized steps to the sinks for our little ones in Mr. Leonard's primary community.  We are most appreciative of the generosity of our staff and families.

There are a few upcoming events at school:

Fall Break is here!   The Children's House will be closed on Friday, Oct. 11 and Monday, Oct. 14.  We will reopen Tuesday, Oct. 15.  Have a wonderful break!

As the weather changes, we ask all families to please replace your child's "back-up outfit" with something that will be appropriate for cool weather.   Don't forget to include labeled socks and undies!

Thanks to all parents who have completed observations.  Should you still need to do so, please call us and we'll help arrange a time!  Lower Elementary parents must complete an observation before scheduling a conference.  Conferences will begin in the next few weeks.  Please keep an eye out for a note from your child's community on how to sign up!

Fire Safety Day is October 18th.  The Fire Department will bring the Fire Safety Bus and talk with all of our children.   This is a great opportunity for them to see the man or woman behind the mask in an environment they are comfortable in and to try on some of the equipment.

We are pleased to extend a school wide invitation to all parents for our Lower Elementary Historical Pageant on October 25th. Stop in any time during the hours of 9:30 and 11 am, and walk through the Lower Elementary community.   This is a "shining moment" event for our Lower Elementary children, and you will not want to miss it.

Lower Elementary dads are invited to join your children in the community for Donuts for Dads on November 8 from 9 to 11 am.  This is an opportunity for dads to come into their child’s community and experience a lesson from their child and share breakfast.  Be prepared to learn a little something new about your child’s day!

Our next quarterly Montessori Education Night is coming up November 8 at 6 pm.  We'll explore Montessori philosophy and the Mathematics curriculum.  Feel free to invite friends and family.  More details will follow!

Going Out:

Our Calendar & Events page here on the website is updated frequently, and provides details on each upcoming event, including maps when needed.  No need to remember everything listed here -- you can bookmark this page and check in often!

Pizza Night at Oz Pizza will be Tuesday, Oct. 15.  Come out and show your school spirit!  Last month's Spirit Night at OZ earned our school $150.

The whole school will be making a trip to Uncle Bob's Pumpkin Patch on October 23rd.  Contact your child's teacher if you'd like to volunteer to drive.  This is a fun outing.  Take a look at Uncle Bob's here.  More information will be coming next week.

The Mattis and Jamilkowski families have kindly invited us to attend their Halloween potluck on October 26th from 4:30 to 7 in the evening.  Our school event originally scheduled for that evening has been moved.  Mark your calendar for a school fall social event on November 16th.  More details to come!

Fundraising:

Don't forget to return your Small Hands catalog order form!  These are due back on          November 21. You can also share our code with family and friends, and our school will earn credits towards new materials.  If you need another catalogue to share out with friends or family, just let us know!  Many of the items in the book make wonderful gifts and are different from the things seen in the stores; we order many materials for your child’s community from this catalogue and I have personally ordered multiple gifts and toys for my own children from them over the years.

We will be participating in the Tea Collection School Days promotion again this year.  A portion of all sales placed from October 21 through 27th will go to The Children's House.  We'll send out a link to our store front a few days before the sale begins, and you can share this on Facebook or email it to grandparents, family, and friends.
